One of the biggest “wins” for the alarmists is the wider public acceptance of the UN’s (via the IPCC) pronouncements of the validity of anthropogenic (human caused) global warming. A great example is my own barber, who always strikes me as a well read bloke, who told me that “it was hard to believe that such an esteemed body of experts” couldn’t possibly be wrong.
The other prong of attack of the alarmists is to denigrate any scientists who don’t toe the warming line. They call them deniers and accuse them …

I have always been sceptical of the science behind global warming, but I have always thought it was a science issue; either the science supports human induced warming or it doesn’t. However, having recently become more involved in the warming debate, it has been made obvious to me that climate change is really a political issue.
This partly explains why solid, peer reviewed science is ignored by the alarmists. A scientist acting in the true spirit of science would recognise when their theory has proven unfounded. However, a politically (or financially) …

One thing that strikes me as being very odd is the way that so many people cite the “many” scientists who support human induced climate change as being reason enough to accept it as absolute truth. Apart from the fact that the supposed universal scientific agreement on the subject simply doesn’t exist, this acceptance by the public is completely at odds with the general distrust the public has for a lot of modern science.
An example is genetic engineering. There has never been any identified risk with any commercially developed genetically …

I’ve heard that the Arctic is/has melted and the polar bears face extinction; isn’t that terrible? Don’t we have to do something?
Well, yes, it would be terrible if it were true. However, contrary to popular reports, the Arctic has not melted. It’s true that the summer melt in 2007 was greater than usual but the re-freeze in the winters of 2008 and 2009 was greater than usual (i.e. there is more ice than ever). The alarmists will claim that the ice is younger and thinner but so what? The point …
